Wild Patch
An exploration of the power and symbolism of weeds, vis-a-vis the practice of foraging.
Supported by the British Council, WILD PATCH is a place-based inquiry led by new media artist Derek Tumala and curator Ligaya Salazar in collaboration with Emerging Islands.
We designed a foraging walk and workshop in collaboration with the elders of Up-uplas, especially Barangay Captain Marcelino Perez Jr, to invite members of the La Union community, including surfers, entrepreneurs, artist activists, and students to share in the living, ecological wisdom of the community.
To culminate the project, Derek Tumala created a menu out of our foraging for a tasting dinner. The gathering served as a space for the participants to reflect on the stories and sensations gleaned from the foraging workshop and brainstorm around how to integrate them into their own creative projects.
